I can do that-Newspaper baskets
Everyone has newspapers sitting at home, and I happened to see a picture on Martha Stewart of a newspaper basket and thought "Hey I can do that!". Martha usually out crafts me, but I got her this time!
Here's how you do it:
Start weaving the paper strips and staple, tape, or glue gun as needed. A stapler seemed to work for a first time tester(and you honestly can't really see them in the completed project. Next time, I will probably use rolls of tape.
Here's how you want it to look. Start with the base of the basket. I decided to start making my basket 4 paperstrips wide so that's what you see vertically. 4 of the horizontal stripes will be the bottom of the basket and 2 I will be folding up to make the edges.
You can staple the strips together to weave it in and out to make the edges. I chose to do two strips as the edges so it would stay a shallow bowl.
One you weave the edges, you are left with the ends of the newspaper sticking out(see above). Fold them down, alternating between the inside and outside of the basket and I weaved the edges back through the basket and fastened underneath. On the above picture, the strip on the right was folded down over the first strip and weaved under the second strip. You can see that in the photo below. As you get all the edges folded and secured, it will tighten up.
Thanks for viewing! If you've made one, please send me a picture or a link. I'd love to see it(and what you use it for!)
