Anteayer

Pronunciation: anteayer (click and listen)

Origins: “Anteayer” is an adverb. It's compound word: Ante- ayer, where “Ante-” is a prefix equivalent to the English term “Before”, and “ayer” meas “yesterday”.

English translation: The day before yesterday.

Definition, according to the Real Academia de la Lengua (Royal Academy of the Language) (www.rae.es):

En el día que precedió inmediatamente al de ayer.”

This could be literally translated as:

The day that immediately precedes yesterday.”

Nota that...Spanish language can express the idea of “The day before yesterday” using two different ways: “anteayer” and “antes de ayer”, but remember the form “antesdeayer” is wrong!

Expressions: www.rae.esincludes two uses:

1.- anteayer por la noche: the day before yesterday, at night.

2.- anteayer por la tarde: the day before yesterday, in the evening.
