This is my response to an article written by the unbelievably ignorant David J. Stewart entitled “God Created Adam and Eve... NOT ADAM AND STEVE!” See the link below. A friend of mine posted it on Facebook, and in light of the gay rights victory in New York I was compelled to respond to it. Actually I argued with him for quite some time – I do occasionally use Facebook to recreationally argue with people who express bigoted opinions – it may be my calling. Quotes from the article are in bold and my responses follow. Please read and share with anyone who supports EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL PEOPLE regardless of sexual orientation.
“God created Adam and Eve; not Adam and Steve. Got it! Any 2nd grader knows this truth.”
Hopefully any day now every 2nd grader will know that man invented God, therefore God could not have created Adam and Eve. God also crated Eve from Adam’s rib, in the same way that my dad gave birth to me.
“Public school teachers are not allowed to teach about chastity, virtue or character; but they can give out condoms, show Harry Potter movies, and teach New Age horse-manure to the kids.”
It is not a teacher’s job to teach chastity, virtue or character. It is a teacher’s job to teach mathematics, grammar, history etc. Teaching chastity, virtue and character should be up to the parents. Watch out for Harry Potter, he might turn your son gay!
“Public school children are being taught that they're victims of Christianity, the big bad wolf who has come only to oppress and frighten the poor little defenseless homosexuals.”
Ever hear of separation of church and state? Where is this school where teachers are teaching children that they are the victims of Christianity? In this writer’s opinion children are victims of Christianity – what is the purpose of knowing about Noah’s Ark, or that the earth was created sometime between 5,700 and 10,000 years ago and in six 24-hour days no less, while the scientific consensus, supported by a 2006 statement by 68 national and international science academies, is that the universe has existed for around 15 billion years, and that the Earth was formed about 4.5 billion years ago – but that’s another story.
“To say that some people are born homosexual is to say that God makes mistakes.”
If something doesn’t exist, it cannot make mistakes. Man made the mistake of inventing God, not the other way around.
“The very idea of two men having sexual relations is against nature.”
Nature is defined as the natural world as it exists without human beings or civilization. Or to put it another way, nature is comprised of elements in the natural world, such as mountains, trees, animals, or rivers. Homosexuality does exist in nature, in animals that is - homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them (Bruce Bagemihl, Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, St. Martin's Press, 1999; ISBN 0312192398) - therefore, homosexual behavior cannot be against nature.
“It is telling that the only type of society that will embrace homosexuality is a sick-minded society that also embraces feminism, fornication, abortion, divorce, pornography, nudity, witchcraft, idolatry and every other form of sin imaginable.”
Of course, women belong in the kitchen not in the workplace. We should not fornicate with people we are only sexually attracted to and don’t want to procreate with. Victims of rape and incest should be denied abortion. Women and men in abusive relationships should stay married no matter what. Pornography is bad because it depicts people performing unnatural acts such as anal and oral sex. Nudity is wrong because we were all born wearing modest outfits God tailored himself, to go nude is to affront God. Witches cast spells causing flowers to wilt, and dogs to bark uncontrollably, so obviously they need to go. Idolatry is wrong because Catholics are really very different from other Christians.
“This very fact by itself evidences the degenerate sinful nature of homosexuality, which the Old Testament calls sodomy.”
The Old Testament also tells us that an uncircumcised boy should be abandoned by his parents and community. It tells as that those who break the Sabbath are to be executed, that handicapped people cannot approach the altar of God, and that if a person worships the WRONG GOD he or she will be killed by the RIGHT GOD. Why would anyone believe, let alone publically cite the Old Testament? To cite the Old Testament is to discredit oneself completely and fail intellectually.
“ God curse is upon the United States because of our wickedness and love for wickedness (evidenced by Hollywood's continued success).”
Exactly, it’s because of the continuing success of people like Maryl Streep and Jack Nicholson (both heterosexuals by the way) that God has cursed the United States and caused events such as 9/11 and Katrina to occur.
“Judgment Day is upon us, but most people are too blinded to realize it yet.”
Another asshole was sure Judgment Day would occur on May 21st , but that day came and went. People should not be fooled though; Judgment Day is coming in the form of global warming and climate change. We will encounter stronger hurricanes, and increased droughts causing water to become scarce and driving humanity to war. Polar ice caps will melt and cause sea levels to rise and interfere with ocean currents which regulate temperatures. We will confront more frequent wildfires and on and on and on. Oh, Judgment Day is coming, but it won’t be because your son kissed another boy, or daughter married a woman.
God Created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve

A very important subject to address. God created woman for man and man for woman. Not woman for woman or man for man or else He would have created two Adams or two Eves.

Okay, first let me say that your "friend" is a blithering idiot. As a Christian, I feel compelled to state that the bible says that, yes homosexuality is a sin, but then, so is condemning other people. I think your points were well written and to the point and that perhaps your bud there should practice what the New Testament is really about, Love.

Very enjoyable. I must confess I can't even be bothered to argue with people who churn out that sort of stuff - I just walk away. But you have had the patience to argue the point(s).......will it do any good, or change anything? I think not!
