gulay

Planting trees, vegetables, flowering plants, fruit bearing trees and other plants are some of the act of nature stewardship. Living in an agricultural country like the Philippines we need to plant in order to sustain our basic necessities and needs. Planting trees is a very helpful act to help our ailing mother nature because it gives fresh air and cool environment. Having vegetable farm or garden have been also part of our tradition as an agricultural country. It had different benefits for mankind and especially the place that we live in "Earth"

1. It provides food for the family/people
2. It makes the environment clean, fresh and green
3. It makes people healthy
4. It prevents calamities like floods, global warming and etc.
5. It gives people extra income in terms of selling
6. It gives shades and moist in the environment.

Did you know that digging soil while planting is also good in our health because while digging the soil some mineral are being touch and basically negative ions were inhaled by us that gives extra energy and boost in our immune system. Planting is also a remedy against stress cause you feel more relax and calm. So now, I would like to share some vegetables that were planted by my father in our backyard.

tomato

This is a tomato plant but in the Philippines it is called Kamatis,it is juicy and delicious to eat even it is raw. It is good source of Vitamins A, C, K, folate and potassium, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, magnesium, phosphorus and copper. It makes your skin soft and good for it contains Beta-carotene like in carrots and has also lycopene which protects your skin from the fierce ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. It also makes our bones strong for it contains vitamin K and calcium. And most especially it fights cancer for its contains lycopene and a good antioxidant. So lets eat kamatis or tomato now. I love seeing the tomato plant bear fruits like in the picture.

winged bean

This is a legume plant called winged bean or in the Philippines it is called sigarilyas. It is a good source of protein, vitamins ( A, E, Thiamin , Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Betaine, Folate, Pantothenic Acid ) minerals, fats and carbohydrates. It grows and creeps like a vine reaches the height of 3 to 4 meters that makes it a perennial or annual. It also helps nitrogen fixation in nature cycles or food chains. It is very heartfelt seeing that winged bean hanging on air. It is also fulfilling that the plant you planted started to produce vegetables or fruits.

So start your home garden and vegetation now and plant trees. I do believe in this saying "Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago". --- Warren Buffett
