Colicky Pain: What is Colicky Pain?
Colicky pain is the pain that comes and goes. It lasts for a short period of time like seconds or minutes, eases off and then returns, and so on. Colicky pain is associated with hollow organs such as small and large bowel obstruction and the uterus during labour. On the contrary, constant pain persists for the whole time and arises from a solid organ like pancrease (pancreatitis).
Regarding colicky pain some painful conditions are misnamed such as renal colic and biliary colic as the pain in these conditions is rarely colicky in nature; pain rapidly increases to a peak and persists over several hours before resolving gradually.
