May 2013 - Ramble about real life v online troubles
I’ve been a content writer for three years and have seen the ups and downs with days where my traffic has surged and other months where my traffic has gone down to zero. As I try to macro manage my statistics I often neglect what is really important to me and that includes my family, friends and my real life.
A few things have made me put my online worries into perspective and has reminded me that life is short and I should grasp every moment as if it was my last! Two events really stand out:
1) A colleague of mine recently lost her daughter – her daughter was a beautiful young lady who had the whole world open to her, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be and now there is a grieving family lost. I look at my daughters and my grandson and cannot grasp losing one of them – it’s simply not meant to be that way! My heart nearly broke for my colleague, but I now understand that my family is far more important than the few dollars I may or may not earn online.
2) A friend of mine (same age) has major health problems that are un-diagnosed. Her vision often blurs and at times she sees hallucinations, has blurred vision and has other symptoms. She does not take drugs and has a relatively healthy life style. For two years she has undergone tests and the doctors have ruled out 99% of the diseases that ‘could’ match the symptoms. She continues to go through a series of tests and visits different specialists but the symptoms continue to get worse. While I have a few minor health problems I feel I am blessed that I know what they are and know there are treatments that will help me get better. My friend feels helpless and discouraged and I feel that she is losing patience with everything.
I will probably still obsess over traffic and fret over the damage Google is doing to my traffic – but it is now something that is not important. If I can give you any advice it would be:
Focus on your family, your health and your life – do everything you can do to make yourself happy and make those happy around you.
