A funny thing happened on my return back to facebook after being away for some time. I had decided to download that highly popular app that claims it can tell you who is viewing your facebook profile, and how many times they are viewing it. Good thing I mentioned it to a friend first, because he warned me not to download it - it's a fake.
But how can that be, it has become very popular on facebook, and scores of facebook members are screaming at how they now know who their stalkers are. In fact, I had one friend who looked over the data from this fake app, and had almost decided to unfriend all his friends because he was convinced several people were stalking him.
First off, let me state this clearly - facebook DOES NOT ALLOW profile tracking of any kind, period. They simply do not allow it to be done.
Now about the app itself - it's fake. It gives you a list of names of people it claims are viewing your profile page, a few may indeed be real people on your friends list, but many are people you have never heard of. And the viewing numbers are also fake, and many people have tested this app and come to the same conclusion.
My brother tested it, and at first all the names of those who were suppose to be viewing his profile page were all names he did not know. So he got some new friends to view his profile page a number of times for a week, and the app did not show them at all. And others have carried out much more in depth tests and come to the same conclusion, the names and the numbers are all fake. So what is the real purpose of this facebook profile tracking app?
The app has two missions. one, it is the perfectly created spyware. Once downloaded onto your computer, it than begins monitoring all of your facebook activity, including your personal information, and it gathers information even when you are not using it. And that's not all, it can also monitor all of your friends information as well, since you and all your friends are linked together on facebook.
The second thing this facebook profile tracker does is that it is the perfect delivery system to get viruses onto your computer. Not every download will contain a hidden virus, but enough do so it should be a warning to all. By giving the facebook profile tracker permission to download onto your computer, you are also in effect giving any hidden viruses permission to download onto your computer, and that is not good.
How wild and crazy are those fake numbers? One of my friends who did download the app before knowing the truth about it said he had just made friends with someone, and within one week the guy had viewed his profile 89 times, that's a number that is so far out of whack it would be hard to believe. Like I said before, some of the names of your friends the app will actually get right, but how does it do it? Again, the app is spying on all your facebook activity, as well as all your friends activity. The longer you have the app on your computer, the more actuate it will get with presenting names to you, but the viewing numbers are still all fake. The app wants you to believe it's doing a good job so you keep it on your computer, so it creates false numbers. This app is nothing short of a very sophisticated state of the art piece of spyware.
